1. Painting Cornelius - A Look In The Rearview Mirror

PAINTING CORNELIUS is an idea born in 2001, shortly after the creation of the non-profit organization THE CORNELIUS PROJECT (TCP), which was intended as "an experiment to spice up Luxembourg's cultural landscape". PAINTING CORNELIUS became part of TCP's strategy to serve as a platform to exchange ideas, to twist perspectives and to gain new insights into the human species.

The theme of a first edition of PAINTING CORNELIUS was clear to those infected by the refreshingly uncommon perspective of TCP: "Finding the CORNELIUS GENE". Invitations to artists were sent out to embark and portray this quest according to their creative inspiration and interpretation.

The interdisciplinary concept found a warm welcome and started cruising. The first stage of PAINTING CORNELIUS fires in April 2003 when TCP exhibits its collective findings of deciphering the CORNELIUS GENE in Luxembourg City. TCP hopes you enjoy the alchemy of mixed media, visionary creations and glimpses of the hidden. TCP further hopes that its quest will generate many new members of its community to support its exciting roadmap for the future.

As with any endeavor of this kind, the path was not a straight line to the goal.

THE CORNELIUS PROJECT a.s.b.l. would like to thank all artists for their participation and all other involved or supporting people for their contribution to this project.

2. The Cornelius Project - A Proving Concept

The Cornelius Project (TCP) is a non-profit organization (founded March 2002) whose objective has been to provide a framework for creative talents to exercise, broaden and publish their works.

Besides offering a promotion platform, TCP has been developing collaboration projects allowing the participants to benefit from an interacting community. Through the use of modern media TCP has developed an international network of collaborators, whose social tissue offers the opportunity to take contributions by collaborators to a higher level of public exposure, recognition and autonomy.

The results are interdisciplinary creative and artistic projects that combine multimedia ingredients such as video, music, text, images, performances, discussions and event happenings. The combination of these elements has resulted in refreshingly uncommon inventions and forms of expression.

All projects have been managed successfully as financially self-sufficient enterprises. The conceptualized marketing of the projects has played a decisive role in this entrepreneurial approach. By entrepreneurial spirit, we mean internal drive, vision and commitment to convert ideas into hard facts; the process of identifying, developing, and bringing a vision to life. TCP has been an idea factory implementing new ideas through innovative thinking.

Based on the success of "The Cornelius Project" and its underlying philosophy we developed our ideas into an extended model. We identified the term "Applied Creativity" to best describe the spirit the TCP vision. Our understanding of "Applied Creativity" is:
- Creativity related to real-world needs (e.g. entertainment, education, marketing…)
- Creativity employed as a tool to achieve an enterprise
- The use of creative skills to put ideas into practice

3. TCP - Today's Model For The Future

TCP functions as a project-oriented umbrella institution. Projects embedded into TCP's framework…
- Promote creatively talented individuals by offering a community framework to exercise, broaden and publish their works
- Integrate into a platform for cultural innovation, interaction and exchange
- Fulfill a pro-active educational role and produce social benefits
- Promote & apply new media technology
- Target to be financially viable, to function self-sufficiently and independently.
- Extensively benefit from synergies with other projects and the wide-spread activity areas within TCP and its strategic national and international partners
- Encourage entrepreneurship skills and attitudes, combining artistic creations with commercial applications and vice-versa

TCP's projects are embedded into the following infrastructure:

Pillar 1 - Media Platform

TCP is actively developing its existing assets into a full-blown media platform spanning across all mass media components. The objectives are:
- To present, showcase and distribute the media-effective content generated by TCP
- To provide public exposure to TCP collaborators, partners and sponsors
- To self-promote TCP and its projects, events and educational programs
- To foster an interacting community of content-contributing collaborators

Pillar 2 - Educational Programs

TCP's educational programs offer an educational interdisciplinary framework to individual project collaborators and community members. Offerings include practical workshops, seminars, socio-cultural meetings, research projects and institutional collaborations (e.g. "projet pilote" in schools). The objectives are:
- To integrate directly with TCP projects (e.g. elements of TV show as course subjects)
- To offer experiential, practical classes mixing knowledge and real world projects, bridging gaps between the educational & professional worlds.
- To teach and demonstrate a proactive mindset and entrepreneurial values
- To be "open for all" (diverse student profiles)
- To connect into an international collaboration network between educational & entrepreneurial institutions

Pillar 3 - Events

TCP continuously invents & implements a wide range of cultural events. The public exposure gained through events constitutes a vital presentation & distribution channel. Event types include conceptualized happenings, festivals, exhibitions, concerts, readings, public contests, etc. The objectives are:
- To kick-start and motivate the participation of collaborators
- To complement the objectives of the "Media Platform"
- To provide tangible objectives to creative initiatives (e.g. exhibition, contest awards…)

TCP is based on a collaboration model involving individuals, public & private institutions.
Our vision is to establish TCP as an internationally operating, Luxembourg-based institute. We also believe that spin-off companies and joint-ventures may result from successful TCP-initiated projects.

Added values of TCP's objectives include:
- Promotion and occupational opportunity for artistic disciplines
- Promotion of a proactive entrepreneurship culture at all individuals & institutional levels
- Stimulation of socio-cultural interaction
- Promotion of audiovisual and new media
- Support platform for social institutions
- Enrichment of national cultural scene
- Bridging institutional gaps
- Promotion of creativity made in Luxembourg

TCP is currently in the process of implementing and deploying the full infrastructure outlined above. Essential elements of the general strategy have reached completion level. Strategic partnerships have been concluded and/or continue to be actively pursued. The nature of such joint venture is a win-win scenario for all involved contributors.

In return for sponsorship, TCP provides its supporting institutions with:
- Media and event presence in all of TCP's activities
- Services spanning through all of TCP's activity areas (e.g. logo animations, video spot…)
- Presence on generic or project-specific promotion campaigns
- Integration into educational programs as participants or educators
- Access to the target group of young entrepreneurs
- Potential recruitment opportunities of motivated talents
- The prestige and public recognition of supporting the noble & progressive objectives of TCP

Do you see the possibilities ?
